Participating in the EUDIW Unfold Testing

Between 8 and 12 June 2026, we participated in our first EUDIW Unfold #3.1 interoperability testing week, organised as part of the France Identité EUDIW ecosystem.

This was an important step in validating LutraID in a real European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) environment. The goal was not only to test individual components, but also to see how different wallets, issuers, verifiers, and flows work together across implementations from different organisations and countries. The goal is not for solutions to work in isolated environments, but to function effectively across a diverse ecosystem of actors.

We are "Ready for France Identité"

EUDIW Unfold is the France Identité Playground from the French national identity project that provides an important testing environment for companies and organisations building in the EUDIW ecosystem.

Through this process, we tested LutraID in interoperability scenarios focused on real-world identity and attribute verification. This included interactions between different roles in the ecosystem, such as issuers, verifiers, and wallets, and helped us validate how our components behave when connected with other implementations.

Key Numbers from the Testing Week

During the testing week, we actively engaged in a large-scale interoperability environment involving 22 countries, 23 issuers, 32 verifiers, and 15 wallets. In total, over 2,000 test combinations were executed across 15 participating entities. We specifically tested LutraID across multiple issuance and verification flows, as well as with 9 wallet providers. Overall, the ecosystem achieved a strong 70% success rate (640 out of 914 tested combinations), with OID4VP 1.0 with HAIP reaching an impressive 80% success rate. Out of 204 partner combinations tested during the week, 167 proved fully interoperable.

Focus on Age Verification and PID Verification

The main focus of this testing week was age verification and PID verification.

These are among the most important early use cases for EUDI Wallet adoption. Age verification enables users to prove that they meet a specific age requirement without unnecessarily sharing additional personal data. PID verification enables trusted identity verification based on person identification data issued by a Member State.

Both use cases are highly relevant for online and in-person scenarios, from regulated digital services to access control, onboarding, and public or private sector identity checks.

Why Interoperability Is Actually Important

Interoperability is one of the key requirements for the success of the European Digital Identity Wallet.

The value of EUDI Wallets depends on the ability of different systems to work together across borders, sectors, and providers. A wallet from one country should be able to interact with issuers and verifiers from another country. A business should be able to verify trusted credentials without building a separate integration for every wallet or national implementation.

That is why interoperability testing is so important. It helps identify gaps, align implementations, and move the ecosystem closer to real adoption. Participation in this testing is an important part of becoming ready for the wider EUDI Wallet rollout. Standards and specifications are essential, but practical interoperability testing is what shows whether systems can actually work together in production-like environments.

We were proud to be the first (and only) Slovenian company participating in this interoperability testing!

What This Means for LutraID

LutraID is built to help organisations issue, manage, and verify digital credentials compatible with the EUDI Wallet ecosystem. By participating in interoperability testing, we can make sure that our platform is not only aligned with specifications, but also tested against real implementations from across Europe.

We are excited to continue contributing to the EUDI ecosystem and helping businesses prepare for the next phase of digital identity in Europe!
